whereideascomefrom is an initiative of what might loosely be labelled The Ideas Project.  One possible outcome would a collaborative graphic book called A Small Book About Ideas, arranging the word-based and image-based explorations of the web site in a more linear, narrative form. Other possibilities are metaphor-driven workshops and interactive tools.

We are looking for contributors and collaborators; the principal author currently:

John Reaves

John has toiled at intersection of the arts, technology, and innovation for the last four decades. He used early electronic media formats to document and publicize economic development and environmental issues in the 1970s, and worked for the nascent microcomputer industry in the 80s. He helped found and manage the Gertrude Stein Repertory Theatre, which became a pioneer in the use of digital technology in education and the arts.  GSRT collaborated with IBM, AT&T, NTT, Yale, Binghamton, Georgia Tech, Moscow Arts Theatre and other institutions in the U.S., Japan, Russia, Korea, and around the world.  GSRT’s groundbreaking work was covered by PBS, CNBC, NYT and other leading media. In 1998, he was a founder and CEO of Learning Worlds, a for-profit creative and consulting agency, specializing in new product development and marketing.  Learning Worlds worked with Epson, SAP, Lucent, Sun, Lexis Nexis, Nationwide, and other established and startup companies. He is a founder and director of Learning Worlds Institute, a not-for-profit group applying innovation methodologies to societal challenges.  Recent projects have included the Art of Science Learning, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, exploring the application of arts-based approaches to education in science, technology, creativity, innovation, and 21st century workforce skills.
